Hon. Victor Abang, PhD, Member representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has appealed for restraint among youths protesting the deplorable condition of sections of the Ikom–Obudu Expressway.
In a statement addressing the ongoing protest along the federal road corridor, the lawmaker urged the demonstrators and residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and temporarily vacate the roadway in the interest of public safety and the free flow of traffic.
He noted that deliberate legislative and executive efforts are already underway to facilitate the rehabilitation of the affected sections.
Hon. Abang explained that the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, has engaged the Federal Government—under whose jurisdiction the road falls—to ensure the commencement of immediate remedial works and the comprehensive reconstruction of the damaged portions.
While acknowledging the legitimate frustrations of residents who have endured prolonged hardship, economic losses, and safety risks due to the road’s deteriorating condition, the federal lawmaker reassured constituents that their concerns have been formally escalated through appropriate legislative channels.
He added that the necessary procurement and administrative processes are being finalised to enable prompt government intervention.
Reiterating his commitment to effective representation and responsive constituency advocacy, Hon. Abang said he remains actively engaged with relevant federal and state authorities to secure urgent attention for critical infrastructure deficits in the constituency.
He urged constituents to continue expressing their grievances peacefully while allowing institutional processes to deliver tangible results.
The statement, signed by his Personal Assistant on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communications, Simon Abang, expressed appreciation for the patience, resilience, and civic responsibility of the people of Boki/Ikom, assuring them of sustained efforts to address the road infrastructure challenges in the area.
