President of the Senate, Godswill Obot Akpabio, has commended the lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Osita Ngwu, for his long-standing commitment to supporting the education of young people through scholarships and bursaries.
Akpabio gave the commendation on Saturday in Enugu during the Senator Osita Ngwu Scholarship and Bursary Award Programme, where students from the district received financial support for their studies.
Speaking at the event, the Senate President described Ngwu’s gesture as a priceless investment in the future, stressing that education remains one of the most powerful tools for empowering young people.
According to him, the value of giving a child education cannot be measured in monetary terms because it equips beneficiaries with the ability to achieve their full potential and compete anywhere in the world.
Akpabio noted that Ngwu’s generosity goes beyond his position as a senator, describing him as a natural philanthropist who believes strongly that no child should be left behind in illiteracy and ignorance.
He said the lawmaker had consistently made personal sacrifices to support the education of students from his constituency and other parts of Enugu State, adding that such commitment to human capital development deserves recognition.
The Senate President further praised the initiative for identifying and encouraging outstanding students in universities and helping to shape them into responsible citizens who will contribute positively to Nigeria’s development.
Akpabio revealed that Ngwu has sustained the scholarship programme for about 30 years using personal resources and savings from his salary, noting that the initiative was not funded through any official budget.
He congratulated the senator for his dedication to education and urged other public office holders to emulate his example in supporting the next generation.
