The Senator representing Abia North in the National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State is more united than ever and determined to secure victory in the 2027 presidential and governorship elections in the state.
Kalu made the declaration on Friday in his hometown of Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, while addressing members of the Reality Organisation, the OUK Movement and other APC stakeholders from across the state during their first quarterly meeting.
The former Abia State governor said although he was not physically present during the party’s recent congress in the state, he fully supported the outcome and the decisions taken by party leaders.
According to him, the process was coordinated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who he said acted with the consensus of party stakeholders.
“Abia APC is one. Even the congress held last week had the agreement of all stakeholders, and the Deputy Speaker was asked to execute it. I am in total agreement with what he did,” Kalu said.
He dismissed claims of internal divisions within the party, insisting that members remained united ahead of future political contests.
“Those talking about disunity in the party do not know that Ben Kalu is a member of the Reality Organisation. He was supposed to have attended the meeting today,” the senator added.
Reaffirming his stance on the 2027 general elections, Kalu expressed confidence that the party would deliver overwhelming votes in Abia State for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, unlike the outcome of the 2023 elections.
He also projected that the APC would win the governorship and all three senatorial seats in the state.
“What happened in 2023 in Abia will not happen again. Nobody should sabotage us this time around. I have told the president that we are going to deliver Abia for him, and that is exactly what will happen,” Kalu said.
He maintained that the state would reciprocate what he described as the Federal Government’s financial investments in Abia by supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Kalu further commended Tinubu for efforts to introduce state policing across the country, noting that he had advocated the policy during his tenure as governor over two decades ago.
He added that the National Assembly would ensure that appropriate legal safeguards are put in place to prevent any potential abuse of the state police system by governors.
Also speaking at the meeting, the immediate past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, praised Kalu for his political leadership and influence in the state.
He described the former governor as a major force in the political development of Abia, saying many politicians in the state had benefited from his mentorship.
Orji pledged his support for both Kalu’s return to the Senate and President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, expressing confidence that the APC would also capture the Abia governorship seat.
In his remarks, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu commended the prevailing unity within the party and urged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the elections.
He also formally declared his intention to contest the Abia governorship election in 2027 and called on party members to support his ambition.
Similarly, the Abia State Secretary of the APC, Chidi Avoaja, commended Senator Kalu for his continued support and contributions to the growth of the party in the state.
Avoaja assured that the party would work collectively to secure victory for President Tinubu and whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate in Abia State in the 2027 elections.
