At least five people are feared killed following a deadly night attack by suspected bandits on personnel of the National Park Service (NPS) in Oyo State.
The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Oloka community in Orire Local Government Area, where the assailants reportedly took NPS officers by surprise. Multiple casualties were recorded during the attack, with some personnel said to have been killed and others injured.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of fatalities and injured persons has not been officially confirmed.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said security agencies had commenced a coordinated response to the attack.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men on National Park personnel. The Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location,” Ayanlade stated.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Femi Haruna, has ordered the deployment of tactical units, including operatives of the Mobile Police Force and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Security operations are ongoing, and authorities have assured the public that more details will be made available as investigations continue.
