Former Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, believes Nigerians will determine the next president in 2027. In a recent interview, Dalung expressed concerns over the current state of governance, citing President Bola Tinubu’s administration as being “far below expectations” .
Dalung also weighed in on the recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that these moves may not necessarily translate to votes for Tinubu in 2027. He noted that the APC’s endorsements of Tinubu are more like a “political caricature”.
On the coalition forming ahead of the 2027 elections, Dalung sees it as a unique development, driven by the current economic hardship and the Tinubu administration’s policies. He believes the coalition could pose a significant challenge to Tinubu’s potential re-election bid .
Regarding Prince Adewole Adebayo’s presidential ambitions, Dalung praised Adebayo’s charisma and leadership qualities, saying he is a force to be reckoned with in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) .
Dalung also commented on Prof Pat Utomi’s plan to form a shadow government, describing it as an effort to provide alternative policies and hold the current government accountable .
In his assessment of the 10th National Assembly, Dalung described the lawmakers as a “band of choristers” for President Tinubu, rather than a rubber stamp, citing their tendency to sing the president’s praises .
