The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has declared that his administration will soon expose politicians allegedly sponsoring the sit-at-home orders that have continued to disrupt socio-economic activities in the state.
Soludo made the disclosure while speaking to stakeholders during a security meeting in Awka, where he expressed concern over the persistent enforcement of illegal sit-at-home directives, particularly on Mondays and during public examinations and commercial days.
According to the governor, credible intelligence reports have linked the continued sit-at-home disruptions to political actors who are funding and coordinating criminal elements for selfish interests.
“We know those behind this. Some politicians are sponsoring it, and the time has come to name and shame them,” Soludo said. “Anambra cannot be held hostage by a few individuals seeking relevance through violence and intimidation.”
The governor stressed that while the original agitation behind the sit-at-home protests may have had political undertones, the situation has since been hijacked by criminal groups and their sponsors, who profit from fear and instability.
Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring normalcy across the state, noting that security agencies have been mandated to intensify intelligence-driven operations to dismantle the networks enforcing the illegal order.
He also warned residents against complying with sit-at-home directives not authorised by the government, assuring them of adequate security to go about their lawful businesses.
“Anambra is open for business. Anyone who threatens our people or our economy will be decisively dealt with, no matter how highly placed,” the governor added.
The sit-at-home order, initially linked to pro-Biafra agitations, has continued to cripple businesses, schools and transportation in the South-East, with Anambra among the worst-affected states.
Residents and business owners have repeatedly appealed to the government to take firmer action, as the recurring shutdowns have led to significant economic losses and heightened insecurity.
Governor Soludo urged community leaders, traditional rulers and religious institutions to support ongoing efforts to expose sponsors of violence and encourage citizens to resist fear and intimidation, insisting that peace and economic stability remain top priorities of his administration.
