President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions, comprising 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors, following their confirmation by the Senate in December 2025.
The postings, announced in a State House press release today, Friday, 6th March, according to Presidency, are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and deepen bilateral relations with countries across the world as well as with multilateral institutions.
Among the prominent non-career ambassadors appointed are former presidential aide Reno Omokri, who will serve in Mexico; former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode, assigned to Germany; former Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, posted to Canada; and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd), who will head Nigeria’s mission in China.
Former Senator Ita Enang was appointed ambassador to South Africa, while Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Former Lagos State Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro was posted to Australia, and former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lateef Kayode Are, was assigned to the United States.
Other notable postings include Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Mahmood Yakubu to Qatar, and Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd) to the Philippines. Barrister Chioma Priscilla Ohakim will serve in Poland, while former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State was posted to Greece.
In Europe, Ayodele Oke will represent Nigeria in France, Barrister Onueze Chukwujika Joe Okocha (SAN) will serve in Ireland, while Barrister Olumilua Oluwayimika Ayotunwa was posted to Japan. Fatima Florence Ajimobi was assigned to Austria and Lola Akande to Sweden.
The list of career ambassadors includes seasoned diplomats such as Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Ambassador Shehu Ilu Barde to Ghana, and Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal.
Others include Ambassador Sulu Gambari Olatunji Ahmed to Malaysia, Ambassador Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel to Belgium, Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande to Switzerland, and Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya.
According to the Presidency, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has granted agrément for Ambassador Ayodele Oke.
The ministry has also communicated the nominations of the remaining 62 ambassadors-designate to their respective host countries and requested agrément in line with standard diplomatic practice.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to their various missions.
The appointments are expected to reinforce Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, promote economic diplomacy, and strengthen international partnerships.
