A group, ECONID (Egba Collective, Nigeria), has made a formal appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the state and national levels to return of Senator Ibikunle Amosun to the National Assembly in 2027, in the overriding interest of sustainable development and equitable representation for Ogun Central.
ECONID, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Dr. Hassan Ishola on Friday, said Senator Amosun’s wealth of experience, proven leadership capacity, and deep-rooted connection to the people uniquely position him to rekindle the pace of development in Ogun Central.
Ishola recalled that prior to the administration of Senator Amosun, Abeokuta grappled with significant infrastructural challenges that limited its growth and status as a modern capital, adding that his tenure as Governor, and subsequently as Senator representing Ogun Central, marked a turning point — ushering in widespread infrastructural development, urban renewal, and economic stimulation that redefined the landscape of the district.
He said: “These strides earned widespread recognition among the Egba people, the Yoruba nation, and Nigerians at large, including those in the diaspora.
However, since his exit from both executive and legislative offices, there has been growing concern among constituents over the apparent slowdown in development and the perceived reversal of earlier gains in Ogun Central.
“Despite not holding elective office, Senator Amosun has continued to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the advancement of the district. His efforts in facilitating key projects—such as the establishment of a Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, the development of the Ake ultra-modern arcade, and his strong support for cultural initiatives like Lisabi Day and Egbaliganza—have sustained the visibility and cultural relevance of Egbaland on both national and global stages.”
