The Taiwan Mission Has Opened a New Frontier for Practical Nigeria–Taiwan Economic Cooperation – Ambassador Adejuwon
The Hybrid Culture, Technology and Innovation Promotion Initiative (HyCuTIPI) has described the successful participation of its Nigerian delegation in the 2026 Taiwan Smart Agriweek Exhibition, together with high-level visits to the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), Pingtung, and Kun Shan University, Tainan, as a significant step towards building a new generation of practical Nigeria–Taiwan partnerships in agriculture, technology, education, innovation, investment and industrial development.
The Nigerian delegation, led by the Grand Patron of HyCuTIPI, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, OFR, CON, SAN, and the President of the Initiative, Ambassador David Ademola Adejuwon, undertook the programme from 8–16 September 2026.
The mission was designed to expose Nigerian stakeholders to Taiwan’s technological and innovation ecosystem while identifying opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships between Nigerian and Taiwanese universities, businesses, technology companies, investors and other institutions.

Speaking on the significance of the mission, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba said Nigeria’s engagement with Taiwan should increasingly focus on creating practical partnerships that allow both countries to contribute knowledge, capital, technology and markets.
“Nigeria must move beyond being merely a consumer of imported goods and technology, be self-sufficient in food production and put a stop to being classified as a Net Food Importing Country (NFIC). We must build partnerships with countries with advanced technology, Innovation and technical know-how through which technology is transferred, adapted, developed and ultimately co-created with Nigerian institutions and enterprises.”
According to him, Taiwan’s experience evidently underscores the importance of linking education, research, technology, entrepreneurship, manufacturing and private investment in creating sustainable economic development.
“What we have seen and learnt in Taiwan is that innovation becomes transformational when universities, research institutions, public and the private sector work together collaboratively. Nigeria has the human resources, huge market, good climate with little or no natural disasters and huge natural resources endowments to benefit enormously from such a model.”
He added that the objective should not be to replicate Taiwan mechanically, but to identify technologies and institutional models that can be adopted and adapted to Nigeria’s peculiar economic and developmental circumstances without having to reinvent the wheel.
A New Frontier for Practical Private Sector Driven Economic Cooperation — Adejuwon
Ambassador David Ademola Adejuwon, President of HyCuTIPI, said the mission to Taiwan had provided a great insight into what is going on in the country which as of today is acknowledged to be the global technology and innovation powerhouse and an opportunity to move Nigeria–Taiwan economic relations from general expressions of goodwill towards specific, commercially viable and institutionally sustainable projects.
“This mission has actually opened a new frontier for practical Nigeria–Taiwan economic cooperation. We have seen technologies, institutions and business models that can be adopted and adapted to Nigeria, and we have started discussions with Taiwanese relevant stakeholders on how to translate these opportunities into concrete actionable projects.”
He emphasized that HyCuTIPI would complement Government’s efforts in bolstering economic cooperation with Chinese Taipei as members of the World Trade Organization as well as focus on building private sector driven partnerships capable of producing measurable outcomes in Nigeria.
“Our objective is not simply to sign agreements for the sake of signing agreements. We want partnerships that will lead to technology transfer, attract a substantial Foreign Direct investment, create quality jobs, facilitate innovation and skills development, research collaboration, enhance industrial production and lead to a stronger agricultural value chains in Nigeria.”
SMART AGRICULTURE: FROM EXHIBITION TO IMPLEMENTATION
At the 2026 Taiwan Smart Agriweek Exhibition in Taipei, the Nigerian delegation productively engaged with the Executives and members of Taiwan Turnkey Project Association (TTA), Taiwan Africa Business Association, (TABA) and Taiwanese companies and stakeholders involved in smart farming, agricultural machinery, precision agriculture, greenhouse technology, aquaculture, food processing, animal, fish and poultry feed and probiotics production digital agriculture and other emerging agricultural technologies.
HyCuTIPI identified opportunities for collaboration around the adoption and adaptation of appropriate Taiwanese technologies to Nigerian agricultural (tree crops, arable crops, Livestock, Poultry, aquaculture) conditions, particularly, in the areas where increased productivity, reduced post-harvest losses, efficient resource utilisation and value addition can generate significant economic benefits.
VISIT TO NATIONAL PINGTUNG UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY: AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIP
The visit to National Pingtung University of Science and Technology provided an important platform for exploring institutional cooperation between Taiwanese and Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Discussions focused on possible areas of collaboration in:
* Agricultural research and development;
* Smart and precision agriculture;
* Agricultural mechanisation;
* Aquaculture and fisheries;
* Food processing and agro-industrial technology;
* Climate-smart agriculture;
* Agricultural entrepreneurship;
* Faculty and student exchange;
* Joint research programmes;
* Technical and professional capacity development; and
* Technology transfer and commercialisation.
HyCuTIPI intends to facilitate further discussions and engagement aimed at developing institutional partnerships between NPUST and interested Nigerian universities and agricultural research institutions.
KUN SHAN UNIVERSITY: BUILDING A NIGERIA–TAIWAN UNIVERSITY NETWORK
At Kun Shan University, a topmost private university is Tainan City and highly rated university in Tainan, the Nigerian delegation received a warm reception from the President, Vice President and management of the university.
The engagement explored cooperation between Kun Shan University and Nigerian tertiary institutions in the area of technology, innovation, research, entrepreneurship, leadership, capacity building and academic exchange.
HyCuTIPI expressed its appreciation to the leadership and management of Kun Shan University for the hospitality extended to the delegation and for the productive discussions on establishing stronger institutional links with Nigerian universities.
PROPOSED NIGERIA–TAIWAN MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL PROJECTS
As a follow-up to the Taiwan mission, HyCuTIPI is working towards developing a portfolio of practical projects that can bring together Taiwanese technology and expertise with Nigerian institutions, entrepreneurs, investors and markets.
1. Nigeria–Taiwan Smart Agriculture Demonstration Centres
The Initiative proposes the establishment of pilot Smart Agriculture Demonstration Centres in selected Nigerian agricultural zones.
The centres would demonstrate appropriate Taiwanese technologies in precision farming, greenhouse production, irrigation, agricultural mechanisation, digital farm management and post-harvest handling.
2. Nigeria–Taiwan Aquaculture Technology Programme
HyCuTIPI proposes a collaboration involving Nigerian universities, aquaculture enterprises and Taiwanese technology providers to introduce improved aquaculture production systems, hatchery technologies, fish and shrimp feed solutions, water-management systems and modern fish-and shrimp processing techniques.
3. Nigeria–Taiwan Agricultural Technology Transfer Programme
A structured programme would be developed to identify Taiwanese agricultural technologies suitable for Nigerian conditions and facilitate their local adaptation, training, commercial deployment and eventual local manufacturing or assembly.
4. University–University Research and Innovation Partnerships
HyCuTIPI will facilitate partnerships between Taiwanese universities, including NPUST and Kun Shan University and Nigerian universities in areas such as: Agriculture, Engineering , ICT, Artificial Intelligence, Renewable Energy, Manufacturing, Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Technology, and Food Technology.
The proposed partnerships may include joint research, faculty exchange, student exchange, professional training and joint innovation programmes.
5. Nigeria–Taiwan Centre for Advanced Technology Research and Development
HyCuTIPI is exploring the development of a Nigerian-based centre linking Taiwanese technological expertise with Nigerian research institutions and universities.
The proposed centre would focus on technology adaptation, applied research, innovation, prototyping, skills development, incubation and commercialisation.
7. Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Localisation Programme
The Initiative will propose partnerships with Taiwanese manufacturers to explore the supply, assembly, servicing and eventual local production of selected agricultural machinery and equipment in Nigeria.
This could contribute to mechanisation while creating opportunities for Nigerian technical skills development and manufacturing.
8. Smart Food Processing and Agro-Industrial Clusters
HyCuTIPI proposes a collaboration with Taiwanese technology companies and Nigerian investors to establish Regional Agricultural Biotechnology Park. modern agro-processing and agro-industrial facilities close to major production zones.
The focus would be on research, value addition, packaging, cold-chain systems, processing technology, quality control and export development.
9. Taiwan- Nigeria Business, Investment Technology and Innovation Facilitation Platform
The Initiative will explore the creation of a platform connecting Taiwanese investors and technology companies with Nigerian businesses, universities, entrepreneurs and project developers.
The platform would identify commercially viable projects and facilitate business matchmaking, technical partnerships, investment discussions and technology-transfer arrangements.
10. Technical and Vocational Skills Development
The two sides could collaborate on practical technical education programmes designed to equip Nigerian young people with the necessary skills required by emerging industries, including advanced manufacturing, automation, electronics, mechatronics, agricultural technology, digital systems and renewable energy.
11. Nigeria–Taiwan Business, Investment, Technology and Innovation Council
HyCuTIPI intends to pursue the establishment of a structured facilitation mechanism to provide continuity for Taiwan- Nigeria business and institutional engagements.
The mechanism would help connect Nigerian and Taiwanese companies, universities, investors and technology institutions and facilitate project development beyond individual conferences or delegations.
FROM VISITS TO DELIVERABLES
HyCuTIPI emphasized that the real measure of the Taiwan mission would be the extent to which the relationships established during the visit translate into concrete and actionable projects, investment, technology transfer, research collaboration, jobs creation, skills development and measurable economic value.
Ambassador Adejuwon stated:
“The next phase is implementation. We will engage the relevant Nigerian universities, businesses and public institutions as well as our Taiwanese partners to identify projects that are technically feasible, commercially viable and capable of delivering measurable mutually beneficial outcomes.”
He added:
“We believe Nigeria and Taiwan have complementary strengths. Nigeria brings a large market, abundant natural resources, entrepreneurial energy and a strategic position in Africa, while Taiwan offers world-class capabilities in technology, manufacturing, innovation, energy education and industrial development. A Properly structured partnerships can surely create value for both sides – win win.”
Senator Ndoma-Egba similarly, stressed the importance of continuity and institutional commitment.
“The success of this initiative will ultimately depend on what happens after the delegation returns home. We must build institutions and partnerships that survive individual visits and produce enduring results.”
HYCuTIPI’S COMMITMENT
The Hybrid Culture, Technology and Innovation Promotion Initiative reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating people-to-people, institution-to-institution and business-to-business cooperation between Taiwan and Nigeria., thereby complementing Government’s efforts in growing Nigeria’s economy to $1 trillion within the shortest possible time. Yes, we can achieve this.
HyCuTIPI will continue to work towards partnerships involving Taiwanese and Nigeria tertiary institutions, research institutions, hi-tech companies, manufacturers, investors, financial institutions, entrepreneurs and private-sector organisations.
HyCuTIPI believes that a stronger technology and innovation partnership will contribute significantly to Nigeria’s agricultural transformation, industrialisation, human-capital development and private-sector growth.
The Initiative therefore regards the 8–16 September 2026 Taiwan mission as the beginning of a sustained programme of engagement, rather than the conclusion of a single delegation visit.
