Former Governor of Bayelsa State and National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has called on citizens to remain steadfast in their commitment to the country as Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Senator Dickson emphasised that the nation’s rich diversity remains its greatest strength, urging Nigerians both at home and across the diaspora to reflect on the country’s collective journey and the sacrifices of its founding fathers.
“Our independence reminds us of the enduring responsibility to honour the sacrifices of our founding fathers and all those who have contributed to the growth of our nation,” Dickson stated.
“We must renew our commitment to building a Nigeria founded on justice, equity, unity, democracy, equal opportunities, and respect for the dignity of every citizen. These values must remain at the heart of our national renewal.”
Addressing the socio-economic and political challenges currently confronting the country, the Bayelsa West representative expressed unwavering confidence in the resilience of the populace.
He noted that safeguarding democratic institutions and fostering national unity are vital steps towards ensuring every citizen lives with dignity and hope.
The Independence Day celebrations coincide with the 30th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State. Reflecting on the milestone, the former governor praised the contributions of his home state to the economic and social development of the federation.
“As a proud son and former Governor of Bayelsa State, I join my fellow Bayelsans in celebrating this important milestone and honouring the contributions of our people to our nation,” he remarked, expressing optimism for the state’s continued prosperity and development.
Looking ahead to upcoming political engagements, Senator Dickson reaffirmed the commitment of the NDC to offering effective leadership and good governance.
He assured the electorate that the party remains dedicated to fielding candidates capable of driving national transformation across all levels of government.
Concluding his message, Dickson urged citizens to maintain faith in the country’s potential and collaborate towards building a stronger, more united, and prosperous nation.
