Dame Blessing Nwagba, former member of the Abia State House of Assembly has clinched the All Progressive Congress (APC) Senatorial ticket for Abia South Senatorial District.
The election was conducted last Saturday.
The cerebral ex-lawmaker who was, the 2019 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) expressed gratitude to the delegates and leaders of the party for finding her worthy to fly the party’s flag in the election.
She promised to take up issues of youth and women empowerment as priority if given the opportunity to serve as elected Senator in 2023.
During her engagement with journalists, Nwagba said she was not intimidated by the quality of the candidates from other political parties during the main election, stressing that she is well prepared to defeat her rivals.
Said Nwagba: “I am not intimidated by the quality of candidates from the other political parties that will be contesting with me.’
‘I am fully prepared for the contest and God willing, I will dust them because I know I am the choice of the people’.
‘The people did it for me before, they will do it again. They know I will deliver, they know that I will not fall them, they trust me”.
Meanwhile, before the declaration of results, Nwagba‘s rival, Dr kasarachi Enyinnaya, withdrew from the race, stressing that in all, the party remains supreme.
He said that he bowed to the advice of the state APC leaders to withdraw from the race and thanked the party for the peaceful manner the primaries were conducted.
After declaring Nwagba the winner following Enyinnaya’s withdrawal, the Returning Officer, Brigadier General Victor Nnorom reaffirmed Enyinnaya’s withdrawal and commended everyone for maintaining the peace.
Some of the people interviewed in her constituency by Nigeria News Mark said she is the candidate to beat.
“She is the people’s choice” they chorused.
