Civil Society Coalition slams Gov Abiodun over abuse of power, rights violation…demands public inquiry

Civil Society Coalition in Defence of Democracy (CSCDD) have accused Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun of executive recklessness, abuse of power and political persecution

CSCDD is a platform of activists and concerned stakeholders committed to the enthronement of good governance as well as promotion of democratic principles.

The group raised the alarm concerning the alleged executive lawlessness of Abiodun at a press briefing in Lagos, on Thursday, September 28, vowing to demand for his resignation or impeachment if he continues.

The group had already launched a petition to Ogun State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, September 25, intimating them of some of such abuses.

The rights group expressed worry on the on-going political persecution against the former governor of the state and serving senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and the arrest, detention and intimidation on the life of immediate past chairman of Ogun Ijebu East local government area, Mr Wale Adedayo

“We consider it pertinent to address the press on the issues raised in our petition and to further call on Ogun State House of Assembly to act with urgency to safeguard democracy by calling Governor Dapo Abiodun to order.

“”We wish to again reiterate that political persecution of individuals, irrespective of disaggrement or misgivings, has no place in democracy and should not be condoned under whatever guise”” Comrade Shina Loremikan, the group’s coordinator noted during the briefing.

In a statement made available to journalists, signed on behalf of the group by Comrade Shina Loremikan, CSCDD asked the State House of Assembly to call the governor to order as his continued abuse of power invested in his office if allowed to degenerate is capable of undermining democracy and public peace.

The coalition demanded that “Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun should be called to order with the view to put an end to the spate of political persecution and intimidation in Ogun state.

“cases of political persecution against former governor Gbenga Daniel and former local government chairman, Wale Adedayo should be investigated with the public availed feedback on the findings.

“A public inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the destruction of Datkem plaza should be instituted by OGHA with the view to establishing the truth and to ensure that justice is done.

“Allegations of financial impropriety against governor Dapo Abiodun by Mr. Wale Adedayo, should be investigated through public inquiry so as to avail the public the true position in the interest of truth, democracy and justice.

“An end to continued harassment of Mr. Wale Adedayo by security agencies must be demanded by OGHA, as matter of priority and urgency.

Comrades Alex Omotehinse (President, Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights) Jubril Ogundimu, (Yoruba Amnesty National Coordinator). Rasaq Oladosu, Buna Olaitan Isiak (Human Rights Monitor) among others were at the briefing.
