Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from his position effective immediately.
His resignation letter is dated June 27, 2025.
In his resignation letter, Ganduje cited health reasons as the primary motivation for his decision, stating that he needs to prioritize his well-being .
Ganduje, a former two-term Governor of Kano State, assumed office as APC chairman in August 2023 following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
His tenure was marked by internal disputes, legal battles, and mounting criticism.
Party insiders suggest that political pressure and growing discontent within the APC may have also influenced his decision to step down .
Following Ganduje’s resignation, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) will oversee the party’s operations until a national convention scheduled for December.
According to the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Dalori, will take over as acting National Chairman pending the convention.
The sudden resignation has thrown the party’s headquarters into disarray, with staff and visitors visibly shocked by the development.
While the circumstances surrounding the resignation remain somewhat unclear, Ganduje’s letter confirms his decision to prioritize his health .
A National convention in December is expected to hold to determine new leadership.
