The Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Nigeria (CCSGN) has raised concern over the recent threat by the United States President, Donald Trump to invade Nigeria over allegation of killing of Christians.
This is as the group has written to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, requesting assistance in transmitting a petition to the United States Congress.
The petition, titled “Petition to the United States Congress Against Military Threats and the Unjust Designation of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern,'” according to the group reflects the collective position of civic, faith-based, professional, and human rights organizations across Nigeria.

Speaking at the Lagos Assembly Gate while delivering the letter on Thursday, notable activists: Comrade Buna , Comrade Declan Ihekaire, and comrade Shina Loremikan asked Nigerian leadership to improve on performance but asked the US government to keep off with their invasion threat.
They noted that the county does not need an invasion at the moment., insisting that Nigeria is a sovereign state that has capacity to resolve any impasse.
The petition the group noted has been formally submitted to the Embassy of the United States of America in Abuja for onward delivery to the US Congress.
CCSGN is requesting the Lagos State House of Assembly’s assistance in transmitting the petition to the President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, for diplomatic forwarding to the US Congress.
CCSGN has requested the Lagos State House of Assembly to : Formally acknowledge receipt of the petition.
“Transmit the petition to the President of the Senate for onward delivery to the US Congress.
“Lend moral and institutional support to the civic initiative’.
The coalition believes that the Lagos State House of Assembly, given its historical leadership role in Nigeria’s democratic and civil advocacy, is best positioned to lend weight to this national cause .
