Lucia Onabanjo, widow of Ogun State’s first civilian governor, Late Chief Bisi Onabanjo, dies at 100.

The family confirmed her passing in a brief statement on Tuesday, noting that Mrs. Onabanjo died peacefully after a fulfilled life marked by devotion to family, service, and quiet dignity.

Lucia Onabanjo was married to Chief Bisi Onabanjo, who served as the first civilian governor of Ogun State from 1979 to 1983 during Nigeria’s Second Republic.

Throughout her husband’s political career, she was known for her strong support, humility, and commitment to social and family values.

Tributes have begun to pour in from political leaders, community members, and well-wishers across Ogun State and beyond, describing her as a matriarch, a woman of grace, and a stabilising force within the Onabanjo family.

Details of her funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
