The media office of former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has dismissed as false and misleading the purported report claiming that he secured 45 million votes in a primary election allegedly conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
In a statement issued today, Tuesday by the spokesman of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Ibrahim Umar, the media office described the figures currently circulating on social media and some online platforms as “entirely fabricated,” insisting that no such primary election was held.
The statement clarified that there was no official process from which the alleged figures could have emerged, urging members of the public, party supporters, and media organisations to disregard the claims.
“The attention of the Peter Obi Media Office has been drawn to certain 45 million primary vote figures currently circulating on social media and various news platforms, purporting to be the breakdown of official results from an imaginary primary by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ascribed to Mr Peter Obi,” the statement read.
“We wish to state categorically that these figures are entirely false and fabricated, as such, the primary never took place and no figure was generated from any process.”
The media office further stressed that all official information relating to Obi’s political activities, engagements, and any future electoral processes would only be communicated through verified and authorised channels.
It also accused those behind the circulation of the figures of attempting to associate the former Labour Party presidential candidate with fraudulent political narratives.
“Those behind this fraudulent figure attribution to Peter Obi are looking for partners in their fraud, but they should look elsewhere, not with Peter Obi,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid increasing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several opposition figures and political groups reportedly exploring possible coalitions and new political platforms.
Peter Obi, who emerged as one of the leading opposition figures after the 2023 presidential election, has continued to attract overwhelming support across different parts of the country, particularly among youths , urban and the rural voters.
