The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from purported endorsement lists currently circulating in several states, particularly across the South-East, describing them as unauthorised and Misleading.
In a statement issued today Friday May 29, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the NDC said the lists did not reflect the position of the party and excluded the names of several aspirants who had officially purchased the party’s Expression of Interest Forms.
The party leadership stated that it had neither approved nor authorised any endorsement list for aspirants contesting various positions ahead of the party primaries.
The national leadership of the NDC is not aware of any such endorsement lists, nor has any list been authorised or approved by the party leadership,” the statement read.
The party therefore urged all State Executive Committees, stakeholders, members, and the general public to disregard the circulating documents, insisting that they were not official publications of the NDC.
The development comes amid heightened political activities within the party following the influx of prominent politicians and aspirants into the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In recent weeks, the party has witnessed increased interest from political heavyweights across different regions, triggering intense consultations and alignments in several states.
Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, the NDC said all aspirants who duly purchased Expression of Interest Forms and successfully passed the screening process would be allowed to participate in the primaries.
According to the party, candidates would emerge either through consensus arrangements where applicable or by direct primary elections, in accordance with the party’s constitution and democratic principles.
“The party remains committed to transparency, fairness, and due process throughout the party’s internal electoral process,” the statement added.
Observers say the circulation of unofficial endorsement lists may be linked to ongoing power struggles and attempts by certain interests to influence the party’s emerging structure in some states.
The NDC, which has recently positioned itself as a growing opposition platform, has repeatedly assured members that its primaries would be credible and transparent.
