The Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has congratulated the state Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, on his appointment as the South-South Zonal Campaign Coordinator of the party’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
In a statement issued by the state APC Publicity Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Edem Inyang, the State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Christopher Sunny Etta, and members of the State Executive Committee described the appointment as a recognition of Otu’s political experience, leadership capacity and influence across the South-South geopolitical zone.
The party said the appointment demonstrated the confidence reposed in the governor by the APC leadership, noting that his experience in governance and party politics would be valuable in coordinating the party’s presidential campaign activities across the region.
According to the statement, Otu is expected to deploy his strategic vision, administrative experience and political network towards strengthening the APC’s campaign structures and mobilising support for the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The Cross River APC leadership expressed confidence that the governor would bring his experience and commitment to bear on the new national assignment.
The party also called on APC members, supporters and stakeholders in Cross River State and across the South-South zone to give Otu maximum support and cooperation as he assumes the responsibility.
“Once again, we congratulate His Excellency on this well-deserved appointment,” the statement said.
The appointment comes as political parties begin preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the South-South region expected to remain a key battleground in the presidential contest.
Otu, who became governor of Cross River State in May 2023, is serving his first term in office under the APC.
The party leadership in Cross River said it viewed the governor’s new role as an opportunity to further project the state’s political relevance at the national level.
