The President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu, and his aide, Chigozie Oluwu, have been killed in a violent, cult-related attack in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, February 5, at a popular bar along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road.

Eyewitnesses said about seven armed men, suspected to be cultists, arrived at the location in two vehicles and immediately targeted Azuazu.

According to accounts, the assailants ordered Azuazu into one of the waiting vehicles. When his aide, Oluwu, attempted to intervene, he was shot at close range and died instantly.

The gunmen then fled the scene, throwing the area into panic as residents and passersby scampered for safety, forcing nearby businesses to shut down abruptly.

The following afternoon, February 6, operatives of the Rivers State Police Command, in collaboration with the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC), recovered Azuazu’s headless body from a forest in Omoku.

Confirming the incident, the state police spokesperson, CSP Grace Iringe Koko, said preliminary investigations linked the killings to cult activities. She added that the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to track down and arrest those responsible.
