The life of Mr. Uzo Chikere, publisher cum Editor-in-Chief of www.beats-onit.com, an online news platform, has come under grievious threat as Pretty Okafor, who parades himself as President of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has vowed to “deal mercilessly” with him.
Pretty is irked owing to a news story published in the Journalist’s online news platform concerning the unclear circumstances surrounding the purported acquisition of a property now called PMAN Nigerian Music House, situated at 4B, Hammed Kasumu Street, Chevy View Estate, Lekki, Lagos.
Some Nigerian musicians who are also members of PMAN raised questions about the PMAN Nigerian Music House, just as they brought the issue before www.beats-onit.com, demanding a thorough investigation into the said house acquisition by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and other law enforcement and anti-graft agencies.
www.beats-onit.com not only ran the story, but went the extra professional extent of reaching Mr Okafor for his reaction to which he responded.
He, however, resorted to haulling abuses at the person of the online publisher coupled with threats of maiming, attacking and injuring him.

“I, Uzo Chikere, publisher/editor-in-chief of www.beats-onit.com, is being threatened by Pretty Okafor, self-styled Perfoming Musicians Employers Association Of Nigeria (PMAN) president, over a story about his Nigeria Music House complained about by some Nigerian musicians published by our news platform.
“Despite contacting Okafor for his side, which he obliged and responded to in respect of the matter, published today, December, 10, 2022, he has been bombarding my WharsApp page with threats.

Alarm! Musicians Urge Security Agencies To Probe PMAN ‘Nigerian Music House’
The Inspector- General of Police, alongside other security and anti-crime agencies were at the weekend called to immediately conduct a thorough investigation of a property at 4B, Hammed Kasumu Street, Chevy View Estate, Lekki, Lagos which Pretty Okafor has been vigorously promoting as “Nigerian Music House” Said to be owned by Performing Musicians’ Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
Other agencies requested to aid in the probe are, the Directorate of State Security (DSS), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
The group of musicians, who are all members of PMAN, said this had become necessary as the purported acquisition of the property is shrouded in secrecy and the ownership and the true intended deployment of the said property are raising heated debates within the music industry in Nigeria.
This, they said, was at a time scammers and fraudsters had decided that it was safe to hide behind the creative industry and the stars of the industry, to perpetrate evil deeds against the country.
Some of the questions the group has raised are as follows:
In whose name is the property said to belong to PMAN?
How much was paid for the property?
Which PMAN Delegates conference authorized the purchase of the property?
Where did the money for the acquisition of the property come from?
From which PMAN account and in which bank was the money transferred or paid?
Who are the signatories to the account?
The group insisted that a thorough investigation of the said property was necessary to shield the growing Nigerian music industry, the creative people of Nigeria and innocent members of PMAN from the odium of becoming the new home of promoters of scam, fraud and illicit drug trade in the country.
This, they Maintained, was because there were serious speculations and allegations in the industry that the so-called Nigerian Music House is truly a house of scam, fraud and funded by high wire scammers and fraudsters to operate under the cover of the music industry.
www.beats-onit.com reached out to Pretty Okafor, PMAN president on the issue and he explained that the PMAN House was a corporate head office of the musicians body.
Said he: You know PMAN, for fourty years, PMAN has not had a property of its own. We acquired it as our cooperate head office and it also houses PMAN Radio which is already on test run because we have been granted a radio station operating lisence”.
The group which called for the investigation, is made of such artistes as Manny Eke, Seyi Allen, Baba Ray, Don G, Sor Boj, Oluwafemi Emiator Oboh and Lucky Okri have asked the security agencies not to forget that a stitch in time saves nine. They have also warned that anyone associating himself with Pretty Okafor’s ‘Nigerian Music House’ should do so with utmost care.
