Worried by what it described as an abuse of individual right, intimidation and unsubstantiated allegation by the Nigeria Police Force over the ill-treatment of Çhíef Mrs Dorcas Adeyinka, the Centre for Human and Socio-economic Rights, CHSR, has written to Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker for urgent attention and quick intervention.
CHSR is a public good oriented non-governmental organization (NGO) registered as a corporate body to defend, sustain, promote culture, fundamental human and socio-economic rights of citizens and residents in any part of Nigeria as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Also the group collaborates with other organizations committed to an ideal Nigerian society founded on participatory democracy, equity, fairness and rule of law.
CHSR in the letter made available to the Media had expressed shock on the treatment of Mrs Adeyinka, a philanthropist that has contributed immensely toward empowering the poor and indigent Lagosians.
CHSR said it’s investigation revealed a hidden agenda by the Police Force to rope in Mrs Adeyinka into false murder allegation, illegal displaying of nude pictures, offences she said she never committed and the latest ploy to declare her wanted.
In it’s letter of urgent request, dated 26th June, 2024., signed by Comrade Alex Omotehinse President CHSR, delivered to both the Lagos State governor and the House of Assembly, Speaker, CHSR noted “”In line with CHSR statutory mandate, we received and investigated a SAVE OUR SOUL complaint letter dated 4th June, 2024 from Dorcas Adeyinka Empowerment Foundation.
“Following careful review of the petition and our subsequent findings, we unraveled an orchestrated ploy to trample on her rights to means of freedom with regards to false murder allegations, illegal displaying of nude images, conspiracy to indict, and the latest action of the Nigeria Police Force in declaring her WANTED without due process, shocked and amazed us and the red alert is uncalled for, as this has gone a long way in affecting the less privileged and suffering Nigerian masses which her foundation are on daily basis taking-off the street to boost economy growth of Lagos State as an Epicenter of the country.
“”We therefore wish to draw the attention of your office to the underlisted verifiable material facts provided by the petitioners and which form the basis of our demands for your urgent intervention and her protection as a citizens with rights to free movement and earn legitimate means of survival within the framework of extant laws and regulations of Lagos State:
“The petitioner is Chief Mrs. Dorcas Adeyinka, a Nigerian-born British citizen, the chief executive officer of Dorcas Adeyinka Empowerment Foundation, a foundation of hope for thousands of Nigeria citizens. Through her foundation, she has championed various causes from educational support to business promotion, medical assistance, and palliative relief both domestically and internationally.
Her unwavering dedication and selflessness have earned her widespread admiration and respect which has thrown her-up as a symbol of hope to many household due to the present economy hardship facing us as a nation.
“The petitioner believed that despite her marvelous contribution in creating wealth opportunity and human capacity building, she still found herself enmeshed in a web of harassment and false accusations orchestrated by some individuals with malicious intent against her.
“The cyber influencers’ bullies and frivolous murder allegation has cast a dark shadow over her reputation, threatening to tarnish her legacy built on principles of integrity and compassion.
“The unfounded nature of these accusations underscores the urgent needs for a thorough investigation into the motives behind such attacks.
“The petitioner was invited by Nigeria Police force to Abuja headquarters for investigation which she appeared in person and agreed by all parties that further engagement will be communicated to them but in a shocking turn of events, the Nigeria Police Force declared her WANTED without proper notification or due process as enshrined in the Police acts, code of conduct and ethics not only violated her rights but also perpetuated the cycle of injustice.
“The petitioner believed that the cyber gladiator’s reprehensive act of illegally displaying nude images of her on social media represents a new low in online harassment and it’s a deliberate intent to defame and degrade her person which highlight dangers of weaponing social media platforms for personal vendettas.
“CHSR as a body therefore calls for urgent intervention of Lagos State house of Assembly to prevail on the leadership of the Nigeria Police force to kindly bring down the flagging WANTED placed on Chief Mrs. Dorcas Adeyinka to enable her to exercise her right to freedom, so as to also ameliorate suffering faces of the poor towards human capacity building which will vehemently contribute to gross growth index of the state.
“We earnestly anticipate the intervention of your esteemed and respected office in resolving the issues in furtherance of the commitment of Lagos State Government in protection of life and properties, defend rights of its residents so far in tandem with constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as enshrined.
“Your intervention will help in the alleviation of the sufferings of dependents who are mostly the poor downtrodden as this may become vulnerable to social menace as a consequence of infringement of rights to movement of Chief Dorcas Adeyinka.
“As an organization, we wish to assure your benevolence office of our continued support to your leadership style, administrative acumen, human face legislature and partnership in good governance of Lagos State.
