Tension is mounting at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, following the sudden removal of Rotimi Makinde from the institution’s governing board.
The move has sparked outrage and raised questions about transparency and motives.
Responding to the issue, Makinde, a former lawmaker and outspoken board member, has described his removal as “insulting.”
He alleges that his commitment to restoring peace at the institution has been disregarded.
Hon Makinde credited his tenure with stabilizing a campus previously plagued by recurring crises.
The circumstances surrounding Makinde’s exit remain unclear. While some stakeholders attribute it to a clerical error or administrative oversight, others suggest it may be due to alleged friction with the polytechnic’s management.
Makinde’s supporters argue that his removal is politically motivated and risks derailing the institution’s progress.
They fear the loss of continuity and assert that the transition could reopen old wounds the board had worked hard to heal.
The newly appointed board member has already been ceremoniously welcomed, sparking concerns about the direction of the institution.
