The Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, has commended Governor Bassey Otu for placing culture and tourism at the centre of the state’s development agenda.
The council chairman said the governor’s administration had demonstrated a renewed commitment to harnessing Cross River State’s rich cultural heritage, natural attractions and tourism potential as key drivers of economic growth and sustainable development.
He noted that Obudu, with its renowned mountainous landscape, cultural heritage and tourist attractions, remained strategically positioned to benefit from the state government’s renewed focus on tourism.
According to him, the administration’s investment in tourism and cultural development would create opportunities for local communities, empower young people, attract investors and increase economic activities across the state.
He said, “Governor Otu has shown that culture and tourism are not merely for entertainment but powerful tools for economic development, job creation and community empowerment.
“Obudu has enormous tourism potential, and we are encouraged by the attention the state government is giving to the sector. With the right investment and infrastructure, tourism can become one of the major sources of revenue and employment for our people.”
The chairman further praised the governor for supporting initiatives aimed at promoting Cross River’s cultural identity and attracting visitors to the state.
He urged stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths and private investors to support the government’s efforts by protecting cultural assets and promoting tourism destinations within their communities.
He also called for stronger collaboration between the state and local governments to develop tourism infrastructure, improve accessibility to tourist sites and provide an enabling environment for private-sector investment.
The chairman expressed optimism that sustained investment in culture and tourism would strengthen Cross River’s position as a leading tourism destination in Nigeria and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of Obudu and the state at large.
