A group, the Arochukwu Democratic Alliance, has petitioned the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conduct a comprehensive drug test on Hon Uchenna Okoro Kalu, the Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly.
The group’s demand follows a recent violent incident in which Kalu allegedly attacked a fellow assembly member with a bottle of beer, causing grievous injury.
The group’s Chairman, Mazi Nnamdi Okoronkwo, expressed concerns over Kalu’s erratic behavior, citing reports that the lawmaker has been exhibiting violent tendencies inconsistent with his office.
Okoronkwo stated that Kalu’s colleagues in the Assembly have reportedly expressed fear being in his company due to his unstable behavior.
The group insists that a drug test is necessary to ascertain Kalu’s mental state and determine whether his behavior is linked to substance abuse.
They argue that as an elected public officer, Kalu is subject to public scrutiny and accountability .
